Reflection is a painting by Ilaria Berenice, that explores the fragile boundary between inner perception and external reality.

The figure stands within a liminal space — a corridor in motion — where landscape, architecture, and reflection overlap. In the window, she encounters a masculine presence. The reflection is not merely an optical phenomenon but a symbolic counterpart: the feminine witnessing its inner masculine, the anima meeting the animus.

What appears as an external figure is in fact a dialogue — an encounter between complementary forces that coexist within the same consciousness.

Movement plays a central role in the composition. The perspective stretches forward, drawing the viewer into a quiet sense of transition, while the figure’s gaze turns back, anchoring the moment in introspection. The surrounding environment appears fluid and slightly unstable, reinforcing the sensation of being in-between — neither fully arrived nor entirely departing.
