Description

Presences explores the multiplicity of the human face as a field of coexistence rather than a fixed identity.

The work originates from a painting by Paolo Amoretti, whose composition, structure, and pictorial language define the core of the piece. The figures emerge through layered gestures and fragmented chromatic fields, suggesting a collective presence formed by overlapping inner states.

Ilaria Berenice’s intervention is minimal and deliberate, focused primarily on the red area of the face and a few subtle chromatic accents. These additions do not alter the original composition but act as points of activation — moments where attention condenses and presence intensifies.

The red mark functions as a trace of consciousness: a signal rather than a transformation. It introduces a tension between stillness and emergence, reinforcing the idea of presence as something that appears, withdraws, and reappears across layers of perception.

The result is a work that holds multiple voices while maintaining a clear pictorial origin, where authorship is layered rather than merged, and presence is understood as a shared yet differentiated space.
