Description

Assembled Identity is a collaborative work created through a layered dialogue between Paolo Amoretti and Ilaria Berenice, where material density and ethereal gesture coexist within the same visual field.

On the left, a strongly material figure emerges from Paolo Amoretti’s intervention: a body constructed through collage fragments of newspaper and painted layers, bearing visible traces of time, memory, and stratification. The surface feels grounded, tactile, and archaeological, as if identity were something assembled from remnants and lived experience.

On the right, a second presence appears more elusive and immaterial. This figure, created by Ilaria Berenice through a spontaneous pour of liquid yellow pigment, is less defined, almost self-generated. Rather than being built, it seems to arise organically from movement and chance, embodying a more intuitive and transient dimension of identity.

The background itself is the result of a shared process. Paolo Amoretti first intervened with spray paint, establishing an atmospheric and dynamic foundation. Ilaria Berenice then layered liquid colors over this base, allowing fluidity and transparency to soften and transform the initial structure. The result is a surface where control and unpredictability continuously intersect.

Assembled Identity explores identity not as a fixed or singular form, but as a composite state — shaped by matter and intuition, intention and accident, individual gesture and shared creation. It reflects a dialogue between two artistic languages, where contrast becomes balance and difference becomes cohesion.

This work is part of the Traces of Presence collection, which brings together works by Ilaria Berenice, Paolo Amoretti, and selected co-created pieces, exploring human presence as a layered and evolving field of consciousness, where faces become thresholds between inner and outer worlds.
